A total of nearly 2,130,000 seats are scheduled on flights between the United Kingdom and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport this winter. This is more than 23.2 per cent compared with the winter period last year, and the first seasonal increase for the British market since the end of the COVID epidemic.
According to figures released by Aena, the national airports operator, airlines at Alicante-Elche Airport have scheduled a total of 6.4 million seats and 34,500 commercial flights for the winter period, which began on 29 October and ends on 30 March.
The U.K. dominates the winter market, with Spain second (1,025,000 seats) and the Netherlands third (440,000). The busiest service links London and the Costa Blanca (605,000 seats), followed by Manchester (328,000) and Brussels (287,000). In total, Alicante-Elche Airport is connected to 90 urban centres, covering 156 routes and 102 airport destinations in 24 countries.
Alicante-Elche Fourth Busiest Winter Airport in Mainland Spain
Overall in Spain, airlines have scheduled 15.1 per cent more seats (a total of 126.6 million) compared with the 2022-2023 winter season, while commercial operations total almost 731,000 between departures and arrivals. Alicante-Elche is the fourth busiest airport on Spain’s mainland this winter, behind Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat and Málaga-Costa del Sol.
By geographical areas, the European market leads the way with 68.7 million seats, an increase of 19 per cent over 2022 levels. The market that has grown the most in percentage terms is Asia, with 621,000 seats scheduled this winter (up by 257 per cent).
After Spain, the countries where airlines are offering the largest number of seats for the winter season are the United Kingdom (16.1 million – 18 per cent increase), Germany (10.4 million and 20 per cent), Italy (7.8 million and 27 per cent), France (6.2 million and 12 per cent) and the Netherlands (3.9 million and 12 per cent).
The destinations which have grown most in percentage terms are Poland (98 per cent more seats), Czechia (83 per cent), Hungary (61 per cent), the United Arab Emirates (42 per cent) and Austria (30 per cent).
