Holidaymakers are being offered an all-inclusive, week-long stay in tourist hotspot Benidorm for just over €200. The “Benidorm Resort” scheme has been introduced to help rescue the autumn-winter season, traditionally hugely popular for post-summer visitors from northern European countries, predominantly Britons, as the Costa Blanca enjoys year-round sunny weather.
The heavily-discounted scheme is due to come into effect from 14 October and continue until 31 March 2021. Holidaymakers can book apartment accommodation and eat and drink in any of the restaurants, bars and cafeterías taking part in the scheme.
The booking site is currently only in Spanish, but the scheme organisers say an English-language version will be available soon, and in the meantime interested travellers can write to them in English outlining their preferences. They also stress that COVID-19 health and safety regulations and protocols will be in place at all participating establishments.
Benidorm Resort has been set up by two trade associations (ABRECA and COBRECA) representing bars and restaurants in conjunction with the Inmobiliaria Rosemburg real estate agency and Apartments Nicaragua. It is expected that other associations and leisure and commercial businesses will also become involved, and possibly hotels.
In a statement announcing the initiative, they said, “This project is the result of an indispensable synergy between all the city’s business sectors, and it is going to be a pioneer in Europe.”
One of the advantages of the scheme, apart from the pricing (see below), is that tourists are not closeted with the customary all-inclusive hotel package that restricts all meals to the establishment where they are staying. Guests can choose to check out several different culinary options during the week, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The apartment where they are staying will provide them with vouchers to use as they please, although if they want to order à la carte, outside the daily menu, additional charges will apply.
According to the organisers, two dozen dining establishments and 250 tourist apartments have already joined the scheme.
