TUI Fly Boosts Flights Between Alicante and Belgium

October 13, 2020 By Peter Leonard

Belgium’s decision to ease travel restrictions for the Valencia region has prompted TUI Fly to re-consolidate its flights schedule for Alicante-Elche Airport.

The airline company’s TUI Fly Belgium affiliate had been forced to suspend many of its services in early September when the Belgian foreign affairs ministry classified Spain as a “red” destination. At the end of the month, however, this classification was downgraded to “orange” for the Canary Islands and the Valencia region, where Alicante is traditionally one of the most popular tourist areas for Belgian holidaymakers – as well as other nationalities including Britons.

Thousands of Belgian visitors have second homes in the Alicante area, and many also use Alicante-Elche Airport to travel on to other resorts on the Costa Blanca such as Benidorm and Calpe.

According to the Aviation24 portal, additional flights will be operated by TUI Fly to Alicante from 21 October, with capacities doubled for the All Saints long weekend break (1 November falls on a Sunday this year). TUI’s tour operator division is also offering package holiday options for the destination.

The additional flights to Alicante are due to be operated from four Belgian airports: Brussel (daily); Ostend (five a week), and Antwerp and Charleroi (three each a week). The latter services will reportedly be suspended temporarily from 9 November to 17 December.

The updated Belgian “traffic light” system is…

  • Green: No travel restrictions for these classified countries or regions, with travellers only required to complete the Passenger Locator Form on their return.
  • Orange: Travellers advised to maximise precautions, and on their return agree to enter voluntary quarantine or undergo a coronavirus diagnostic test.
  • Red: Non-essential travel not permitted, and returning travellers required to enter quarantine and undertake a PCR test.

TUI Fly Belgium has also released details of its summer 2021 flight services for Spain, including Alicante-Elche Airport, Corvera Airport Murcia and Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport.

Flights are available for the Alicante route (one-way) from €59.99. The company currently allows clients to change their booking to another date up to 27 October 2021, provided TUI Fly is advised of the change by 31 October 2020. (Note: This information is only meant as a guide – the details should be double-checked and confirmed with the airline company before booking a flight.)
