Tourists visiting Alicante who would like to organise a side trip to Madrid can take advantage of several high-speed and low-cost rail journey options this summer.
After Avlo (a subsidiary of Renfe, which also operates the AVE route between Alicante and Madrid) launched its low-cost services in March and French-owned Ouigo in April, Spanish operator Iryo is now offering additional options between the Spanish capital and the gateway to the Costa Blanca.
Owned by a consortium of companies including Air Nostrum, Globalvia and Trenitalia, Iryo launched its new Alicante-Madrid service – two daily return trips until 15 September – yesterday (2 June). Tickets cost €22 for the Madrid-Alicante one-way journey and €35 for Alicante to Madrid (with tickets available for as little as €18 if booked in advance).
From the second half of September, Iryo only plans to offer daily return services on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
